A high-achieving Little Miami senior got a pleasant surprise recently when she received not one but two awards for her outstanding academic performance.

Maggie Tullis was selected as the winner of the Franklin B. Walter Award, presented by the Warren County Educational Service Center.

Each of the county’s eight school districts submitted names of one top performing student for consideration. Those students were honored at an awards luncheon on Apr. 6 and were presented with a $500 scholarship, a plaque and a proclamation from Sen. Shannon Jones.

While attending the award luncheon as Little Miami’s winner, Tullis learned that she had been selected the overall winner for the entire county as well.

Tullis was asked to write a letter to one teacher who had a significant impact on their lives and she wrote a letter to LMHS teacher Randy Gray. Tullis read and presented her letter to Gray, who also attended the luncheon. Gray also received an award of $250 and a framed copy of the letter.

Tullis went on to receive statewide recognition at the Ohio Educational Service Center Association awards banquet on Apr. 13.
