Little Miami Local Schools has welcomed several new faces to lead buildings and programs for the 2016-2017 school year.

Four new administrators began their first year at Little Miami on Aug. 10, two of whom – Dan Distel and Nate Mahon - were hired at the end of last school year. The newest leaders to join the district are John Bailey, new assistant principal at Little Miami High School, and Erin Losey, new preschool director.

Bailey comes to Little Miami from the Forest Hills School District, where he served as assistant principal of Nagel Middle School since July 2014. Prior to that, he was assistant principal at Mt. Healthy North Elementary in the Mt. Healthy school district. Bailey has a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication, a master’s in middle childhood education and a master’s in educational leadership, all from the University of Cincinnati.

He takes over the position from former assistant principal Brian Dalton, who left to become principal at Lebanon Jr. High School. Bailey has lived in the Little Miami district for several years.

“I’m excited to be able to help these kids prepare for college and career,” Bailey said. “At the middle school level, we were planting those seeds for kids to be successful. Now I’m excited to be able to take that to the next level and see them get closer to their goals.”

Also joining the district is new preschool director Erin Losey.

Before coming to Little Miami, Losey was the preschool assistant principal at the Butler County Educational Services Center since 2013. There she helped oversee 13 preschool classrooms and 45 employees and helped the program achieve a five-star Step Up to Quality rating at all programs.

She has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in special education from Miami University.

Losey said she is excited to begin leading the award-winning Little Miami preschool program.

“This is great opportunity for growth and collaboration,” Losey said. “Little Miami already has such a great program – they have been helping me!”

She takes over the program from former preschool director Jody Bailey, who left the district to teach at the University of Cincinnati.

Bailey and Losey join two others administrators who were hired at the end of last school year.

LMIS Principal Dan Distel & LMHS Asst. Principal Nate Mahon

Dan Distel, formerly assistant principal at Mason High School, was hired Mar. 29 to take over leadership of Little Miami Intermediate after former principal Marla Timmerman was named Director of Student Services for Little Miami in February.

Distel had been an assistant principal for the past three years and prior to that, was a teacher at Mason High School from 2004-2013.

Nate Mahon was hired in January to serve as Little Miami High School assistant principal and varsity football head coach. Mahon was a history and economics teacher at Northwest High School, where he had also served as head football coach for two seasons.
