Those who know Olivia Gevedon know she’s a good citizen. Now there’s official recognition.

The Little Miami senior has won the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Good Citizen Essay Contest for the Turtle Creek chapter. She has won a $250 scholarship and is one of the finalists for the district award to be announced in March. Should she win at districts, she would advance to state competition

The award requirements are for the student to demonstrate dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Applicants, who can be boys or girls in their senior year, are judged on a written description of how they try to manifest the qualities of a good citizen and on their performance in a timed essay.

Olivia boasts excellent academic performance. She is the founder and president of the LMHS Women Empowerment Movement (WEM) club, secretary of H.O.P.E., president of the Little Miami Marching Panther Band, in which she plays the clarinet, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of Buckeye Girls State.

Louise Hunt, Turtle Creek chapter chair, said Olivia’s essay was the only one this year to receive a perfect score.
