Quarantine Alternative Pilot Program

See Pilot Program data report.

Little Miami Local Schools will be participating in a COVID-19 Quarantine Alternative Pilot Program, known as “Ohio Test and Stay,” that provides an alternative option to at-home quarantine for students who are identified as direct contacts of a positive case of COVID-19 at school. This pilot uses mask wearing and frequent testing to keep healthy students in school & keep sick students at home.

Currently, the pilot only applies to students who are direct contacts due to exposure at school, not through a community exposure or school-sponsored activity exposure. Students identified as direct contacts (directly exposed to a person with COVID-19, are unmasked, unvaccinated, and are within 3 feet of a person with COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes) will be eligible to participate in the program, allowing them to stay in school if they meet specific requirements.

In alignment with the latest directives from ODH and in an effort to promote consistency, the following quarantine guidance now applies: families whose student has been identified as a direct contact will have the option to participate in the pilot to stay in school, or they may quarantine for 10 days at home, or return to school on day 8 with proof of a negative test on day 5, 6, or 7. Students who are wearing a face mask or are vaccinated do not need to quarantine.

In order to be eligible for & participate in the quarantine alternative program, a student must:

  • Meet the direct contact definition listed above,
  • be asymptomatic,
  • return a signed consent form to Elizabeth Kusler, Warren County ESC Nurse, at the Little Miami Central Office Testing Location (95 E. US 22&3, Maineville, OH 45039)
  • remain masked with a multi-layer surgical style mask at school; provided by the district,
  • submit to testing immediately upon identification that they are a direct contact and again between days 5-7 of exposure,
  • quarantine at home when not in school and not participate in any extracurricular or athletic activities.

Little Miami is ready to launch students of all LM buildings into the pilot program starting Tuesday, October 5th.

Little Miami Test Procedures

These procedures are subject to change, as LM works to make the process more efficient.

  1. Beginning October 5th, any student in grades PK-12 identified as a direct contact is eligible to participate in the program, allowing them to stay in school if they meet specific requirements.
  1. Once a building has been designated as part of the pilot, students in that building will have the option to take part in the program as an alternative to an at-home quarantine.
  2. When a student is identified as a direct contact of a person with COVID-19 at school, the parent will be called to pick up the student.
  3. If the parent/guardian wants their student to take part in the pilot program, the parent may immediately drive to Central Office to pick up a Pilot consent form and supplies.
    1. The student being quarantined will be given a pilot-specific quarantine letter from the Warren County Health District, indicating that the designated student is to be quarantined from all activities/sports/events other than in-person school.
    2. The student will be given 8 surgical-style masks. One must be worn each day of the pilot as required mask wearing is a parameter of the program.
  4. Upon arrival at Central Office, parents will meet with Elizabeth Kusler, Warren County ESC nurse, to pick up & sign the consent form. Parents will have the option to have their child COVID-19 tested at that time or to take home two test kits if they prefer to participate in the telehealth visit option.
  5. If the student tests negative upon that first visit, they can return to school that day.
    1. Results will be communicated via email from Elizabeth Kusler ([email protected])
    2. There may be a delay in receiving COVID-19 test results.
  6. If the family prefers a telehealth testing kit, negative test results must be sent to Elizabeth Kusler ([email protected]) before the student can return to school.
  7. Parent must submit the results of the second COVID test on day 5-7 if taken at home or bring their student in to meet with Elizabeth for testing on day 5-7.
  8. Students may return to the recommended masking procedures (highly recommended, not required) at school on day 8 with proof of a negative test on day 5, 6, or 7.
