Little Miami Local Schools has announced that it will be pushing back the opening dates of school for the 2020-2021 school year by one week.

The first day of school for grades 5-12 will now be Monday, Aug. 24.

The first day for grades PreK-4 will be Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Students who are enrolled in Virtual Learning Academy will also begin their courses on these days.

Superintendent Greg Power said he understood another change in the back-to-school schedule could create hardships for students and families, but that several factors have gone into making this change.

The large-scale renovation of the HVAC system at the high school and the construction of the new wing at the Intermediate School have delayed district personnel from getting those spaces ready for students.

Also, enrolling more than 1,000 students in the VLA program, selecting and assigning teachers to in-person or online classes and creating new class schedules and transportation routes have proven complicated.

No further changes to the calendar are expected, Power said.
