Vance wins the Geo Bee three-fer

Posted on: February 7, 2017

He took the title twice at the intermediate school, and now he has won a third!

Little Miami Jr. High student Andrew Vance recently won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.

The school-level Bee, in which LMJH students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 29th annual National Geographic Bee. Vance garnered a third Geography Bee victory after winning two at the Intermediate School. LMJH students who made the final round were Vance, Kaitlyn Rice, Cecelia Pucko, Madelyn Highfield, James Vance, Korben Ramsey, Kyle Williams, Jered Wilder, Andrew Vance, Keegan Reese and Isaiah Yacapin.

The kickoff for this year’s Bee was in November, with thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories participating. The school winners, including Vance, will now take a written test; up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible to compete in their state Bee.

The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for state champions and teacher-escorts to participate in the Bee national championship rounds in May. The first-place national winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the Society, and other prizes.
