It wasn't a tweet, a post, a blog or anything of the sort. It was actual long-form writing and they nailed it.

The Little Miami Junior High Power of the Pen team recently brought home several accolades for their work at the district competition last month and regionals on Saturday, March 18.

Power of the Pen is an interscholastic creative writing program for middle schools. During competitions, students are given a writing prompt and 40 minutes to complete a fully-developed piece of creative writing.

The LMJH team is made up of seventh graders Gracelynn Collopy, Elisa Hernandez, Ethan Giannotta, Maddie Highfield, Leah Saunders, Brooke Bullock. Julia Tenbusch and Emma Rudkin were alternates.

At the district competition on Feb. 11 at Mariemont, 19 schools were in attendance. The Little Miami team took second overall. Individually, Collopy placed third and Hernandez placed 13th.

Forty-one schools competed at the regional Power of the Pen tournament on March 18 at Sycamore Community Schools. The LMJH team finished fourth and Saunders placed 18th overall. Hernandez earned a director's choice award and will be published in the 2017 Power of the Pen book. Both will advance to the state finals in May at the College of Wooster.

The team is coached by LMIS teacher Erin Dipzinski.
