Andrea Wall: Little Miami Jr. High School Counselor

Posted on: February 1, 2016

Feb. 1-5, 2016 is National School Counselors Week and to mark the occasion, here is a quick Q & A with the Little Miami Jr. High School counselor Andrea Wall.

Q. How long have you been a counselor at Little Miami?
A. I've been a counselor for LM JH for 11 years...crazy!!  It doesn't seem that long.

Q. What is your professional history?
A. I started subbing for LM as soon as I graduated from Wilmington College and was a seventh grade social studies teacher for six years before taking the counseling position.

Q. What is the most challenging thing about being a school counselor?
A. For me, the most challenging part is how much I miss the classroom at times, and the connection of being with the same group of students each day.  Not to mention...the technology used in the classroom today makes me envious.  When I left, I still had my overhead and transparencies.

Q. What is the most rewarding thing about being a school counselor?
A. The most rewarding part is how greatly I am impacted by the resiliency of our students. We have students with such great challenges that I am amazed at their presence here everyday. It is also easy to forget how hard it is to be ages 12-14 with the social-emotional aspects that this age group is experiencing. Working with JH students is like being on a never-ending roller coaster of emotions but I love it!
