DI team headed to globals

Posted on: April 29, 2016

A perennial top finishing Destination Imagination team from Little Miami has added yet another title to their record.

The LMHS DI Team Players, made up of Gianna Fontanella, Isabel Davidson, Tejas Dinesh, Toby Davidson and Jacob Boldman, won first place out of the top 17 teams in Ohio at a recent state competition in Mount Vernon.

The team upset both Miamisburg and Centerville, who were favored to win.

The Team Players were also awarded a special –- and rare -- Renaissance Award at the state competition. This award was given in recognition for the team's work in their instant challenge and for their creativity and teamwork.

“Unbelieveable teamwork and design in their structure [was so good] that the appraisal team was amazed,” said one judge of the Team Players. “Their intricacies in their solution made for an excellent take on the problem at hand.”

The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning.

As state winners, Team Players will now represent Little Miami at the Global DI finals in Knoxville, Tenn., May 25-28.
