Posted on: September 18, 2015

One outstanding student from Little Miami High School recently earned two prestigious honors in the same week.

Senior Nicole Preisler was recently named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and the Honda-OSU Math Medal winner for the Little Miami Class of 2016.

Preisler joins about 16,000 other National Merit semifinalists, placing her in the top one percent of U.S. high school seniors. The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability based on their performance on the PSAT taken during the junior year. These talented students now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 scholarships worth about $32 million.

The Honda-OSU Math Medal Award is given to the students nominated for the school's best math student based upon mathematic academic performance through the end of junior year. Southwest Ohio seniors have received this award each year since 2008 from the Honda-OSU Partnership, located at The Ohio State University in the College of Engineering.

Priesler will be honored during a ceremony breakfast along with the other winners of this award Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8-10:30 a.m. at GE Aviation in Cincinnati. The award will also include a $100 gift card along with the opportunity to apply for a $3,000 scholarship for an engineering career at the Ohio State University College of Engineering if interested.
