Office 365 and G-Suite

Posted on: May 11, 2017

Office 365 and GSuite (formerly Google Apps for Education) are web-based productivity suites of applications that Microsoft and Google host on their own servers and are available to schools at no cost. Google provides these applications as a “service,” rather than software that must be downloaded and installed, whereas Microsoft offers both service and installable software. To access these applications, all that is needed is a web browser on any internet-connected computer. Additionally, Microsoft Office Suite can downloaded and installed on five different devices.

A key benefit of the cloud-hosted solution is that students can access files, email, contacts, and calendars from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection, from anywhere in the world. Anytime, anywhere access allows users the ability to be productive at school, home, or even on their mobile device.

GSuite and Office 365 provides a safe and secure online environment by respecting and ensuring the privacy of students. Google Apps for Education does not sell information to third parties. Please see this site for more details, https://www.google.com/edu/trust/.

Cloud storage provided by either platform means students no longer have to worry about saving files, storing files on a USB key, attaching and sending files by email. Files stored are always accessible and backed-up online. Revision history allows users to review document edits over time and revert changes.
