Posted on: September 23, 2015

A Little Miami High School senior recently learned he has been named a 2016 National Merit Scholarship Commended Student.

Calvin Kim is one of 34,000 seniors from around the country to receive a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which recognizes students' exceptional academic promise.

Although they will not continue in the 2016 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Kim plans to study pre-med after graduation.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”
