About Mrs. McKinley

I graduated from Miami University in 1995 with a degree in Music Education.  In the 1992/1993 school year, I studied in Luxembourg at the Luxembourg Conservatory of Music and at the Miami University Dolibois European Center.  I used to sing on the street corners of Luxembourg and made enough money to buy Christmas presents for my whole family! From 1995-2000, I taught General Music for Pre-K through the 4th grade in Auburn Hills, Michigan.  I got married to a man from Cincinnati on April 29, 2000 and moved to the area at the end of that school year. I have a step-daughter, Shelley, that is attending Miami University and a son, Matt, that is in the fourth grade.

In 2010, I got my Masters in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University.  I have been able to  use a lot of what I learned from that program in my classroom.  I designed a website to help students practice their recorders at home.  It is called
The Recorder Website.  I was asked to be a presenter at the Ohio Music Educator's Conference in 2011 and at the Technology Instruction for Music Education National Conference on January 5, 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2011, I full-filled all the requirements to earn the title of Master Teacher.  No, this designation did not come with a crown--I asked.

I feel very fortunate to have gotten a job in this district.  I have been teaching here since the 2000/2001 school year.  I taught at Hamilton-Maineville Elementary until 2009 and at the Intermediate School until 2012.  This year they moved me to Salem.  The students are really wonderful and excited to learn.  The staff here is equally wonderful and I look forward to another exciting year!
