Tips to prevent the spread of germs
- Cough or sneeze into your sleeve to prevent contamination of hands with germs. If a tissue is used, always wash hands afterward
- Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth
- Wash hands often with soap and water
- Do not share food, beverages, or eating utensils
When to wash hands:
- After using the restroom
- After coughing or sneezing into hands or using a tissue
- Before handling food, i.e. preparing it or eating it
- After touching shared objects, i.e. toys, phone, pens, doorknobs
- After touching pets or other animals
How to wash hands:
- Wet hands with warm water
- Apply soap and lather hands for 20 seconds (long enough to sing the Happy Birthday song twice)
- Rinse hands with warm water
- Pat hands dry with a paper towel or use hand dryer
- Turn off faucet using a paper towel
- Avoid re-contamination by not touching surfaces when leaving restroom
