Lockers, Locks, and Search Provision

Lockers and locks remain the property of Little Miami Junior High School and are loaned to students for their use. The rental fee is included in the school fees. Lockers are also subject to unannounced searches since they are public and not private property.

Locker mechanisms are delicate. Students may not slam, kick, or force an overloaded locker to close. The handle must be raised while the door is closed.Students must use their school lockers and will be required to use a school lock. Large gym and duffel type bags are not permitted due to the traffic hazard they create in the aisles and hallways. They must be kept in lockers. Book bags must be kept in lockers and cannot be left in classrooms or hallways.

Locks provided by the school through student fees are the only locks that can be used on hallway lockers. School locks enable school officials to inspect lockers should it be necessary to do so. School locks are registered and a record of the serial number, combination and lock owner are all kept on file in the school office. Locks other than school locks will be cut off by the custodian.

Anyone using a locker without having been properly assigned the locker will be liable for disciplinary action.

Valuables - Students are not to keep valuables in lockers and no student should open a locker other than his/her own. The school assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items taken from a student locker. The locks provided by the school will help protect the contents of each locker.

Locker Search Provision - The Board of Education reserves the right to search any pupil's locker and the contents of that locker if the principal reasonably suspects that the locker or its contents contains evidence of pupil's violation of a criminal statute or a school rule.

The Board of Education further puts each student on notice that the lockers are the property of the Board of Education and that the lockers and its contents are subject to random searches at any time without regard to whether reasonable suspension exists.
