Dress Code

Little Miami students will be expected to come to school clean and neat and to maintain an acceptable standard of social behavior and dress according to the standard generally approved by the community and as defined by the Little Miami Board of Education. While parents and students have the responsibility for these matters, the school will not permit immodest apparel and clothing. Any student who dresses in such a manner as to call undue attention to him/herself will be removed from class and required to make appropriate changes of their attire and/or appearance.

1. Contact with both the student and his or her parents will be made when the dress code is violated. If necessary, a request to change or cover the clothing will be made. The student may be sent home to rectify the situation. Repeated occurrences will subject the student to disciplinary action.

2. Unacceptable dress for boys and girls:
  • Any apparel with pictures or writing that is vulgar, obscene, distasteful, advertises alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sexual in connotation, or implies any of the afore mentioned.
  • Tattooing and piercing deemed inappropriate or disruptive to the educational process may result in detention, AES and/or suspension from school.
  • Hats, head coverings, bandannas, sweatbands, sunglasses, and heavy outdoor coats are not to be worn within the building.
3. Shirts and tops must have a high enough neckline to cover cleavage; no muscle shirts, tank tops, halter-tops, tube tops, or spaghetti straps.
  • A bare midriff is not acceptable, no skin should be visible between a student's top and bottom garment when the student sits, stands, raises a hand or bends over. Tops should be long enough to be tucked in if requested by a school official.
  • Clothing that is see-through, torn, ripped, or altered in such a manner to be revealing should not be worn.
  • Lower garments are to be worn at the body's waistline; pants are not to be worn below the waistline. Pants/shorts should not drag the ground and should not allow any portion of the buttocks or undergarments to be exposed when the student sits, stands, raises a hand or bends over. An extra long shirt designed to cover sagging pants and exposed undergarments is not an acceptable alternative.
  • Lower garments with extra belts that hang and/or drag the floor should not be worn.
  • Shorts, as defined herein, may be worn year around. Shorts shall mean, dress type shorts and does not include spandex type biker shorts, cutoffs, long underwear, or gym shorts, or any combination of the same. Cut-off, frayed jean shorts are not allowed. Extremely short shorts are not allowed.
4. Pajamas and/or slippers should not be worn to school unless it is a special designated day.

5. No jewelry or piercing containing spikes or other attached objects. This includes but not limited to rings, bracelets, necklaces, or a collar.

6. Spray-painted or other drastic hair coloring or style is prohibited.
