LITTLE MIAMI JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

COURSE DESCRIPTION GUIDE

2010-2011

panther:

Dear Parents and Students,

The Little Miami Junior High School  Course Description Guide is designed to help students and parents in preparing for the seventh and eighth grade school experience.  The guide will assist you through the scheduling process for the 2010-2011 school year.

The administration, counselors, and faculty at Little Miami Junior High are available to help you select the most appropriate courses for your child.  Please take some time to sit down and look at all course descriptions, so when you begin the registration process you have a good idea of what courses and electives you would like to take.  For help, please call 899-3408 and ask for a counselor or administrator.

Thank you for your interest and support.

Respectfully,

Brian Bailey

Principal

7th Grade Course of Study

Academic Teaming- Academic teaming is a major part of the junior high experience.  Little Miami Junior High has six Academic Teams that create a "school within a school" experience for our students. We have three teams at each grade level that consist of four teachers; math, science, social studies, and language arts.  The 6th grade teams are: Team Awesome, Challengers, and Spirit. The 7th grade teams are; The Sharks, Young Einstein's, and Team Access.

High School Credit- Here at the Junior High we are able to kick start your student's high school career by offering credit in Algebra l or 1/2 credit Pre Algebra and  Band. Students are able to gain a high school credit in each of these courses enabling them to advance further into these subjects during their High School career.

Elective Courses- As you will see in the course descriptions that follow, we offer a few choices to students during a particular part of the academic day.  Students are required to take three periods of electives during the school day.  The type of elective will vary from student to student depending on their interest.  Electives will also vary in length according to the trimester schedule.

Encore Classes- As a part of the elective classes many students will be signed up for an "Encore".  Encore classes are extensions of the academic classroom and will focus more intensely on the state academic content standards.  This will allow students and staff to work more hands on will the specific content areas.  Students will rotate through the four subject areas on a nine week cycle, stopping once in Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies throughout the school year.

Extra Time and Extra Help- Project Pass, B.U.G. (Bringing Up Grades) and our Peer Tutoring Program provide academic assistance during the school day and after school for any student in need of extra time or extra help.  Academic teams will assign students on an as needed basis to the extra time sessions.
