Principal's Desk

The staff and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Little Miami Junior High. This is a very exciting time in any child's life and we here at Little Miami Junior High love to be a part of that excitement. The staff and I have very high expectations for every student that enters our building. We are dedicated to helping every child reach his/her fullest potential.

The activities that we have planned for the 2007-2008 school year will ensure that every child receives the highest level of education that we can provide. With that being said, we understand that we are only a part of your child's education and recognize that we can accomplish more for your student as a team. We encourage parents to contact any one from our staff with any questions or concerns that you may have. Remember, the doors at Little Miami Junior High are always open.

  • Junior High Program Highlights- Little Miami Junior High students, parents, and staff had a very successful 2005-2006 school year.  Highlighted below are some of the wonderful opportunities of which each junior high student is able to take advantage during his/her Junior High career.  Many of these programs reached new levels this year, whether in student participation or beginning new phases of the existing program.

  • Academic Teaming- Academic teaming is a major part of the junior high experience.  Little Miami Junior High has six Academic Teams that create a "school within a school" experience for our students. We have three teams at each grade level that consist of four teachers; math, science, social studies, and language arts.  The 7th grade teams are; The Sharks, Young Einstein's, and Team Access.  The 8th grade teams are; The Explorers, Team Adventure, The Olympians.  Students and staff alike, take great pride in the part their team plays in our overall building success.

  • High School Credit- Here at the Junior High we are able to kick start your student's high school career by offering credit in Algebra l, French or Spanish.  Students are able to gain a high school credit in each of these courses enabling them to advance further into these subjects during their High School career.

  • The Power of the Pen Team- This is an educational writing program that targets 7th and 8th grade students in Ohio.  In addition to mini meets, students compete at three levels of competition (District, Regional, and State).  Students participate in three rounds of impromptu writing and receive instant feedback from judges.  This year 24 students from LMJH competed at the first mini meet of the season at Lebanon Junior High.  From there, 12 students moved on and competed at the district level, which was held at Wilmington College.  Seven students qualified to compete at the Regional meet in April at Sycamore.  From districts, two LMJH students qualified for the State meet held at the College of Wooster.

  • Junior Academic Quiz Team- This club prepares students for our highly successful High School Academic Team. Throughout the year students compete against teachers, parents, high school students, and building teachers.  At this time there are no FAVC schools competing school vs. school.

  • Annual Science Fair — In order to provide our students with opportunities to explore particular science concepts and knowledge in greater dept than is possible from the classroom only, the LMJH science faculty plans a yearly Science Fair.  The faculty hopes that many of our 7th grade students will take the initiative to enter this activity and do a research project that will enable them to explore problem solving techniques, and receive the satisfaction that comes from completing a scientific project of their own. This year we were proud to host and judge our 19th Annual LMJH Science Fair.  In all about 60, 7th grade student's, entered the 2005 edition of the Little Miami Junior High science fair.  Projects were rated as follows; 100-90-Superior, 89-70- Good, 69-0- Satisfactory.

  • LMJH Band - Students perform many times throughout the school year for parents and students alike. Opportunities are available to participate in honors, group, and solo/ ensemble competitions. The Jazz Band performances spotlight the outstanding talents of our young musicians. Band students perform at two pep rallies throughout the school year playing the school fight song, and other motivational pieces to get the students fired up.  The students also perform in the District 13 large band contest each spring.

  • The National Junior Honor Society- Honor Society is an organization that students have the potential to be inducted into during their Junior High career.  The program is the sibling to the National Honor Society that students are eligible for during their High school career.  In order to be inducted students must carry a 3.5 GPA, complete an application, as well as receive a recommendation from a current teacher.  Students that are elected to this organization represent the school community in the following areas; Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.  At the induction in April, Ms. Williams and Mrs. Millburn inducted 60 new members into the Junior High National Honor Society.

  • Student Council- Student council is made up of one elected person from each homeroom in the building.  Student Council uses their funds to purchase items for the school, sponsor less fortunate families at Christmas, donate money to many organizations to help the human effort, and award scholarships to high school seniors. During the 2004-2005 school year student council was able to make the following donations through funds raised during the school year: purchase of DVD players for every Junior High classroom, conducted two food drives for the Morrow Food Pantry, New Toy Drive, Donated $250 to Juvenile Diabetes, $300 to The American Heart Association, $500 to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, $500 to the March of Dimes, $250 to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Cancer Research, $500 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and, awarded four(4) scholarships to LMHS seniors.

  • Team Council - Team Council is a community service organization consisting of representatives from each seventh and eighth grade team.  As a group, students work to identify areas of need within our district, county, and region.  Students raise funds through activities such as our annual lollipop sale, hosting junior high dances, our annual team chain competition, the Pennies for Patients penny war, and our student walk for diabetes campaign.  Our students are always looking for ways to make a difference.

  • Extra Time and Extra Help- Project Pass, B.U.G. (Bringing Up Grades) and our Peer Tutoring Program provide academic assistance during the school day and after school for any student in need of extra time or extra help.  Many of our students take full advantage of these great programs and reap the benefits come report card time.

  • Athletics-The staff and administration of the Junior High Athletic Department provide extra- curricular opportunities for students in a variety of different sports. Little Miami is a member of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference (F.A.V.C.) and exposes our students to competition with other highly respected schools in the Greater Cincinnati Metro Area.  Chalk up 2004-2005 as another successful sports year at Little Miami Junior High School.  We are proud that approximately 50% of our students were involved in athletics at some point during the year.  We are also very proud of our multi-sport athletes who competed in two or more sports throughout the year. Thanks to all of the coaches, parents, and students for their time and effort.  Your dedication is the building block of Little Miami Athletics.

    ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

  • Attendance All students are expected to attend regularly and to be on time for classes in order to benefit maximally from the instructional program and to develop habits of punctuality, self-discipline and responsibility. There is a direct relationship between poor attendance and class failure. Students who have good attendance records generally receive higher grades, enjoy school more and are much more employable after they finish secondary school. -General Attendance Procedures *Note: Parents are asked to call 899-3408 ext. 2002 before 9:00 a.m. any day their child is absent or tardy. This will protect our students and will greatly reduce the calls that need to be made from school to the home as required by law. Every time a student is absent, the student must bring a note on the day that he/she returns to school unless a parent has called the office to report the absence. The student should turn in his/her excuse notes to the homeroom teachers first thing each morning. Failure to present a note from parents or a doctor may result in the absence being counted as unexcused. Click here to read more on the Warren County Procedures for Unexcused Absences.
