Week of: Jan. 5
Student of the Week: Brianna
Language Arts: This week we'll be reading and comparing 2 stories: Grandpa's Corner Store and Barrio, Jose's Neighborhood. See the attached letter for more details. Students will also complete a writing project called "My Dream Bedroom." They will be bringing home their first writing journal soon. You may keep this. We'll switch over to writing in notebooks for journal time.
Math: On Monday we'll start Unit 6 by solving problems with three or more addends (such as 10 + 7 + 3 = 20). During the rest of the week we'll go over addition and subtraction story problems and will collect and graph data in bar graphs. Students should continue to review their addition math facts because in the upcoming weeks we'll be starting subtraction time tests.
Social Studies: On Monday we'll start Unit 1: Where We Live. This week we'll go over map reading skills, and we'll compare and contrast rural, suburban, and urban communities.
