About Little Miami Schools

The quality of Little Miami School District effectively complements the quality of life found in the Morrow, Hamilton Township areas of Warren County – Ohio’s second fastest growing county.

The school district covers significant territory – some 98 square miles, making it geographically the largest in the Tri-state. Cincinnati Public Schools, for example, comprise 90 square miles.

The district unites the communities of Morrow, Hamilton Township, Maineville, Butlerville, several other townships, and increasingly, the many new planned communities in the area.

Academics

-Achieving excellence

Little Miami schools place a strong emphasis on academics – from Studentskindergarten through 12th grade. Student scores on mandated State Proficiency Tests and other tests improve year after year.

The district also focuses on providing individual assistance and programs for students who struggle to master the proficiency tests and other instruments that help measure their progress.

Kindergarten through grade four is where the seeds are sown that allowKindergarten Students children to succeed in upper grades and to become lifelong learners. Our three K-4 buildings, Butlerville, Maineville and Morrow are neighborhood elementary schools and serve students from those communities. Children Reading

At the end of fourth grade, students have been prepared to succeed, educationally, socially and developmentally as they move to the district-wide Intermediate School.

At the upper level, Little Miami High School takes a leadership role in High Schools That Work, which offers a model of high achievement and the tools for high schools to achieve excellence.

Little Miami has consistently raised the academic bar, including the elimination of all general level courses, challenging students to higher levels of achievement. We also provide the support students need and the time for teachers and counselors to get to know each student. This strong academic focus is evident at all grade levels. More than 50 percent of eighth graders take Algebra I, as well as a foreign language for high school credit.

A process that mirrors High Schools That Work but is appropriate for junior high school students is now in place and we anticipate raising the bar for junior high school students as well, while providing them the tools they need to achieve excellence.

Little Miami Schools is committed to preparing each student to become a lifelong learner, reach his or her potential and excel in our complex and shrinking world.

Balance

Teacher Inservice

The district values and encourages parent involvement in the schools and has strong Parent Teacher Organizations. Parents have many opportunities to become involved with our schools in both PTO and volunteer capacities.

Culture

Art Students Little Miami schools provide the full range of creative and cultural experiences at all levels – band, choir, drama, art, photography classes, debate team, chess club and the like. Students in each school collaborate to produce their “yearbooks;” the high school’s journalism students publish a school newspaper and, with an instructor, high school students operate their own FM radio station.

Sports

Teamwork, camaraderie, fair play and physical fitness are the key goals of athletics. Younger students enjoy T-ball, soccer and other age appropriate sports. Football, basketball, wrestling, soccer, softball, baseball, track, golf and other sports are available to Little Miami students. The district also has a strong Athletic Booster association and parent volunteers are active in all our sports programs.
